First love

A glance, a dance, holding hands… The streets were dark. The girls had to get home early, and certainly shouldn’t linger too long at the front door. First love, often forever. So many years ago, but the memory is as alive as if it happened today.

For First love all partners filmed testimonials of seniors talking about their first love. Based on these recordings, workshops were organised in service centers in The Bronx, Villa el Salvador, and Antwerp. This resulted in a multimedia theatre performance about first love. Six actors on an Antwerp stage, virtually supported by seniors from Peru, New York and Belgium.

First love was performed live in May of 2010 at Sering by: Albert Dumont, Maria De Laet, Jempie Vermeulen, Mieke De Block, Roeland Luyckx and Paula Bartelen
Directed by: Mia Grijp and Lisette Mertens
Camera and video editing: Leen Michiels (Belgium) – Tane Martines (New York) – Julio César Gonzales Oviedo (Peru)
Set Design: Ivo Vander Borght
Costumes: Hilde Colaers
